About
I think… So do you…. So what?
So what indeed. Maybe I should introduce myself. I am Graeme Smith, lecturer at Carnegie College in Dunfermline, Fife,
Scotland. Today (Sept 30th 2011) I officially started a PhD. A PhD in what I hear you ask… Right now I do not have a firm name but it is based around the concept of The Edupunk. This is a way of thinking by educators and learners where they abandon the traditional ways of learning and teaching as laid down by colleges and universities and they find better more innovative ways.
The name Edupunk was defined by Jim Groom who has now distanced himself from the movement which I will discuss in more detail later but as in 1979 when The Sex Pistols split up, the punk movement did not die, it got bigger and stronger.
What makes you an Edupunk?
Broadly speaking it could be from any of the following
- You use blogs, wikis, forums or an internet based solution as part of learning or teaching
- You have used social media sites such as Twitter, Google+ or Facebook to enhance education
- You are fed up with the I.T. System provided by your establishment and want to be a renegade
Okay, the last point is a bit tough but you get my point.
There are more and I will add them as I go, my head is spinning right now and I am typing on a Blackberry and want to get it all down.
This site is purely my thoughts and thinking, this will them develop into a community site — http://edupunk.org.uk.
Hopefully we can collaborate and make a difference
